On September 2nd, Calne RFC played host to Melksham in a friendly pre-season match at the rec. The sun finally emerged after a summer in hiding, making for some sweaty conditions on the field.
The game kicked off with an impressive attack from Calne, with Fraser Tait scoring the first try of the game. However, Melksham quickly mounted a comeback and ultimately emerged victorious with a final score of Calne 22, Melksham 51. After the match, Melksham players and supporters enjoyed drinks and a BBQ, courtesy of Calne's exceptional admin team.
Notably, the match marked the debut appearances of some promising newcomers: Liam Emerson, Ollie Armand, Fraser Tait, and Max Henshall. Their exceptional contributions foreshadow a positive season ahead for Calne.
While the final score may not have favoured us, the unwavering determination and effort from all our players, both old and new, was unmistakable. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who joined us, and we look forward to seeing you all again at the Rec on Saturday, the 16th, where we will face Chippenham IIs for the first match of the season!
