March report for Minety !

On 28th September, Minety travelled to the Rec for their first match of the season against Calne.

Following a triumphant win over Devizes II the previous week, Calne entered the match with confidence but found themselves on the back foot for the first thirty minutes. A dominant and well-drilled Minety quickly secured two well-earned tries, with a successful conversion for the second bringing the score to 0-12 by the 15th minute. By the 29th minute, Minety extended their lead with a successful penalty, increasing the score to 0-15.

However, in the 31st minute, Calne began to turn the tide. After taking a breather and reassessing their game plan, they started to make promising gains. Number 7 Ollie Armand (sponsored by TT Fitness Hub) scored Calne’s first try, bringing the score to 5-15. Energised by this momentum, Calne advanced into Minety’s half, capitalising on a chaotic breakdown in the 22, which resulted in a penalty try and narrowed the score to 12-15 just before half-time in the 38th minute.

As the second half began, a revitalised Calne continued their momentum, scoring a try in the 49th minute when Number 2 Chris McAlonan (sponsored by GC Pressure Washing) crossed the try line. This was followed by a successful conversion from Number 10 Liam Kearney (sponsored by Green Vista Ltd), putting Calne ahead at 19-15. The match then intensified, with Minety responding in the 53rd minute with a try and conversion, bringing the score to 19-22. Yet, Calne capitalised on their strong forward pack, and in the 56th minute, Number 8 Mark McAlonan (sponsored by Ferns Group) scored Calne’s fourth try. With another successful conversion from Kearney, the score shifted to 26-22. As both teams fought fiercely, it was Calne who ultimately prevailed when Mark McAlonan scored another try in the 78th minute, concluding the match at 31-22.

The match showcased standout performances, particularly from Chris McAlonan (sponsored by GC Pressure Washing), who was awarded the Riches Roofing Man of the Match award. After the game, players from both Devizes II and Calne enjoyed a post-match meal courtesy of The Pewsham, and we extend our gratitude for their sponsorship.
