Fairford vs. Calne 1XV – Match Report

Calne 1XV traveled to Fairford for a highly anticipated away fixture, looking to build momentum in their season. In what turned out to be a hard-fought contest, both sides had their moments, but Fairford ultimately edged the encounter with a narrow victory.

Calne fought back, looking for an immediate response, but a well-disciplined Fairford side held firm. As the first half progressed, both teams traded possession, but just before the break, Fairford extended their lead with a well-taken penalty at the 40-minute mark, making it 8-0 at halftime.

Calne started the second half with renewed intensity and got their breakthrough in the 47th minute when Chris M powered over the line to score a crucial try. Rhys T held his nerve to slot the conversion, bringing Calne back into contention at 8-7. However, Fairford responded almost immediately, crossing the whitewash in the 49th minute and successfully adding the extras to stretch their lead to 15-7.

The match remained fiercely contested, with both teams battling for territory. Fairford struck again in the 57th minute, scoring another try, but a missed conversion left the door open for Calne at 20-7. Calne seized the opportunity just three minutes later, with James Nash showing great determination to cross the try line in the 60th minute. Unfortunately, Rhys T was unable to add the conversion, leaving the score at 20-12.

With the clock ticking down, Calne pushed hard in search of another score, but Fairford’s defense held firm, securing the victory.
