On October 26th, Calne celebrated its first Calne II XV match in over a decade, with the home side facing Melksham IIIs in a spirited contest.

Both teams fielded a mix of experienced players, returning veterans, and fresh faces, setting the stage for an engaging clash. Calne began on a high note when acting Calne II XV co-captain Al Wicks (sponsored by South West Building Refurbishments Ltd) opened the scoring in the 12th minute. No. 9 James Nash (sponsored by KGH Electrical) added a successful conversion, giving Calne an early lead. However, Melksham quickly countered with a well-executed backs move, securing a try and conversion in the 16th minute.

Calne responded with an impressive display of teamwork and skill, controlling possession through a dominant pack and sharp backline. In the 22nd minute, No. 14 Will Boynes (available for sponsorship) broke through Melksham's 22 to score his debut try for Calne. Just minutes later, No. 13 Rhys Davies (available for sponsorship) powered through Melksham’s defence, crossing the line for another try in the 30th minute. With both tries converted by Nash, Calne pulled ahead to 21-7. Nash then extended the lead, flying over the line in the 43rd minute and converting again, bringing the score to 28-7 at halftime.

After the break, Melksham emerged with renewed determination, intensifying the contest. They capitalized on Calne’s momentary defensive lapse, scoring a converted try in the 45th minute. Another try and conversion followed nine minutes later, and yet another in the 28th minute, narrowing the score to a tense 28-26. Calne, regaining their composure, held off Melksham’s late advances, ultimately securing the victory as the game ended with a final, unsuccessful penalty attempt by Calne deep in Melksham’s 22.

No. 13 Rhys Davies stood out, earning the Riches Roofing Man of the Match award for his relentless work rate and impact on the field.
